Video, Skype and social networking

In this section of my blog, I am going to talk about how multiple online resources can contribute to different ways of teaching in the class room.

Videos are generally very useful for teaching in class rooms. Rather than talking constantly, which can tire some students out after a long day, a video with appropriate graphics and related music may keep students interested longer. I know that I like to watch videos every now and then that help me with my studies along with lectures, as videos you can look at them at home after the lesson if you need to refresh your memory.

This is a video of solving a rubix cube. This is from the website YouTube. It was uploaded by the user pogobat.

I also believe that Skype is a very useful tool for teaching. Teachers going on holiday, or having to go to other places for other thing can generally make their students suffer, as they are missing out on a day of learning, only to have their teacher replaced by a substitute teacher which 80% of the time doesn't even know the unit you are doing. Skype can help us to communicate with our teacher while he is away, and it will not hinder our learning. Another example of software such as this would be Second Life. Second Life is a free virtual world where you can have characters, while also socializing via free voice or text chat.

  2. I agree Skype is a very good method for contacting people. And you are right when a teacher is away on holiday, instead of the students loosing out, the teacher can use skype to make sure the students get some of the lesson they would have missed
